Filmmaker Samko Bernat has announced his next feature documentary, Tuvalu - A Paradise Called Home. The film follows the people of Tuvalu, an ocean nation of around 11,000 people in the South Pacific whose islands rise only a few metres above the sea.

Tuvalu is one of the least visited countries in the world. Children play football on the airstrip, families have lived on the same atolls for centuries and the language is spoken by fewer people than live in a small European town. Since 2025 a ballot under the Falepili Union treaty with Australia has allowed up to 280 Tuvaluans a year to move to Australia for good.

“We are not showing a disappearing country. We are showing what the world stands to lose, a people, a culture and a home that no one wants to give up,” says Bernat.

The film is directed and produced by Samko Bernat together with Timo C. Ludwig, who serves as co-director, producer and director of photography. Their previous feature documentary, Unscripted - In the Heart of Africa, is available on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Google Play Movies & TV.

The Government of Tuvalu has expressed its support for the project. The story is told through the eyes of Tuvaluans themselves, in English and Tuvaluan with English subtitles.

Companies can support the production as Official Supporters of the film.
